Our Story

The church was founded in 1997 by Kirk & Jane Yamaguchi with approximately 20 people.

But let’s back up a few years: before the church began, a Pastor named Jack Crosby began praying that God would bring a Vineyard to Fremont County. The church quickly grew from a group of people in Kirk’s living room into a church! They soon had to find new venues, including larger houses, sharing business space, meeting halls, smaller church buildings and eventually purchasing use of the church on 7th and Harrison in 2001. This building, formerly the 1st Christian Church, has been the starting point for many churches, including the E Free church.

Eventually land was purchased at their current site on South Raynolds, formerly a Knights of Columbus Hall. Ground was broken in 1006 but before the building was complete Pastor Kirk felt called to help at a vineyard church in Grand Junction! He and Jane are still serving as the senior pastors at the Grand Junction Vineyard and Regional Overseers over the churches in Colorado. Cory Sondrol, then the youth pastor, was asked to step into Kirk’s shoes. He and his wife Julia led the church into the completion of the building project, and the grand opening for the vineyard at 245 S. Raynolds took place in July of 2007.

This was an exciting time of growth for the church, where weekly attendance soared to over 1000 people each Sunday. Many people gave their lives to Jesus during this time, and the years 2008-2014 saw nearly 100 baptisms annually. Over 10,000 people have been through our doors and vineyard would like to invite anyone who has had a part in building this church ministry to contact us with your current information at 719-269-3695 or [email protected] They would like to invite you for the anniversary weekend August 19-20.

Two churches have been started in Fremont County from the mother church on Raynolds. The first was in Florence in 2013, called The Wellspring, A Vineyard Christian Fellowship, Pastored by Jeff & Dawn Ward (950 Victory Lane, Florence, CO 81226, (719) 784-2149). They now have over 250 attenders and are planning construction on a new sanctuary. The second was planted in Fall 2016 at the original Harrison Building, called the Royal Gorge Vineyard (629 Harrison, (719) 315-4769), led by Greg & Alicia Swearingen. Both couples were on staff at the mother church before being sent out.

In 2016 Cory and Julia felt the call to help with a group of churches in Chicago. It was a bold move, but leadership of the vineyard was given to our 28 year old Worship Pastor, Luke (and Crystal) Canady. Luke was a teenager in the vineyard youth group back in the day!
